It was never going to be easy. The Bishop was scheduled to leave Houston for Iquitos (via the Atlantic and the Amazon) on 20th August. However, the booked cargo ship suffered significant engine failure and was, at last check, in some boat yard in Manaus having a make-over.
Thankfully we have Fabian (Bespoke Handling) and Coqui (shipping agent) on our team and, after several weeks of stress, the Bishop recently set sail for Callao (Lima), due to arrive 3rd October. Although this removes the majority of our schedule contingency, we are still optimistic in protecting our schedule – to start rowing on 1st November.
What could be a better test of how well we packed and secured the Bishop than a mostly paved road trip over the Andes?
